The NEET Counselling for the year 2024 is expected to commence from July 2024 onwards. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), responsible for the counselling process, is likely to reveal the NEET 2024 counselling schedule about a month after the announcement of the NEET 2024 results.
The NEET UG 2024 counselling will consist of six rounds tentatively scheduled to be completed by November 2024. The number of rounds could change depending on seat availability. The counselling process for NEET is utilized for the allocation of medical seats. There are a total of 1,09,145 MBBS seats and 27,868 BDS seats available.
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) oversees the NEET UG counselling for admission to MBBS, BDS, and BSc Nursing seats under the 15% All India Quota (AIQ). The State Medical Counselling and Admission Authorities handle counselling for the remaining 85% State Quota seats. Eligibility for counselling is limited to candidates who meet the NEET cutoff score set by the exam.
The NEET 2024 examination took place on May 5, 2024, and the results are scheduled to be announced on June 14, 2024. The counselling process for NEET 2024 is anticipated to follow a similar structure to the previous year, including the registration fee. Nevertheless, there will be modifications to the seat distribution due to an increase in the total number of available MBBS seats compared to the previous year. This page offers a comprehensive overview of the NEET counselling process in 2023 for the benefit of prospective candidates.

The detailed process of NEET 2024 counseling is outlined below:
Registration
To begin, it is essential to sign up for the NEET counseling sessions for every round. This registration procedure is entirely conducted online. Applicants need to access the MCC’s official website to finalize the registration and submit the fee electronically through methods like net banking, credit/debit card, or UPI.
Choice filling
- Once the registration process is done, candidates must log in to their registered account on the MCC portal to input their choices.
- They need to choose the course/ college in the desired order of preference
- They can fill in any number of choices from the list provided
- Candidates can add/delete a choice
- They can also move up/ move down a choice as per their preference
- Once the choices have been filled out, it is important to save a copy of the completed selections for future reference.
Choice Locking
The next step is to lock the choices entered by them. During the choice locking period, it is necessary to lock the choices to get a print of your submitted choices. Cautioning candidates, MCC stated, “Don’t wait till the last minute to Register and Lock your choices and to take a printout. Please go through your submitted choices before locking, as once you lock the choices they cannot be modified or changed even if you have made a mistake. It may result in the allotment of a seat which you never wanted. Please note that the choices once locked cannot be unlocked even from MCC.”
Verification by Universities and Processing of Seat Allotment
The universities and colleges will verify the registration details and choices submitted by candidates. Accordingly, they will release the seat allotment result.
Seat Allotment Result
MCC will release the seat allotment result for candidates who will register and submit choices following the due process. First, a provisional result will be released and candidates will allowed to submit objections if any and then, the final result or seat allotment list will be released. Based on their seat allotment, candidates could either accept or go for the institute reporting round. Or they could opt for an upgrade of seats. In case of the latter, they had to register for further rounds of counselling.
Verification by Universities and Processing of Seat Allotment
Once candidates submit their registration details and choices, universities and colleges will proceed to verify this information. Subsequently, they will announce the results of the seat allotment process.
Seat Allotment Result
The MCC will publish the seat allotment outcome for candidates who register and submit their choices according to the stipulated procedure. Initially, a provisional result will be disclosed, giving candidates an opportunity to raise objections if needed. Subsequently, the final seat allotment list will be released. Candidates will then have the choice to either accept the allotted seat and proceed to the institute reporting round or opt for a seat upgrade. If candidates choose to upgrade their seats, they must register for subsequent rounds of counseling.
Reporting to the college allotted
Candidates selected during the NEET 2024 counseling process are required to visit the designated institutes to have their documents verified and confirm their seat allocation. Failure to report to the institute within the specified deadline after accepting the allocated seat will result in the cancellation of their candidature.
Seats that remain unfilled after the initial round will be moved to the next round. Yet, any remaining vacant seats following the final round of NEET counseling in 2024 will be allocated to the corresponding state quota. Unoccupied seats in the All India Quota (AIQ) of Deemed Universities, Central Universities, and ESIC colleges will be occupied during a supplementary round of NEET 2023 counseling. Any remaining seats will be filled during the institutional/stray round of NEET Counselling.
