The Selvam Educational and Charitable Trust, located in Vadakangulam, was founded in 1984 under the leadership of Dr. S.A. Raja, a well-known philanthropist and educator from Vadakkangulam, who aimed to provide quality education primarily to the younger generation from socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. His vision was to empower and prepare young men and women to tackle global challenges in development, innovation, and the application of technology for the benefit of humanity, while instilling core human values through ethical practices and motivating them to contribute to society. The trust has set up over 30 higher education institutions across various fields, including Engineering, Medicine, Dental, Pharmacy, Polytechnic, Nursing, and Arts and Science. The curriculum at the School of Agricultural Sciences (JU-SOAGS) at Joy University was developed using a multidisciplinary approach in line with the guidelines set by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. JU SOAGS provides four-year degree programs for BSc. (Hons.) Agriculture, BSc. (Hons.) Horticulture, and B. Tech. (Agricultural Engineering).
